Accompanied by representatives of trade unions, Dr Gandhi handed over a memorandum of their demands and requested him to dissolve the "anti-people bill" immediately.

Dr Gandhi said the governor was informed about how the Punjab government had "smartly played a move" to oppress the voices of people fighting for democratic rights.

"In 2010, the state government had passed the Property Damage Prevention Bill and the Punjab Special Security Bill. But, neither was implemented because of public uproar," Dr Gandhi told the governor.

This time, the government has passed a revised version of the same bill to restrict people from expressing dissent against anti-state policies, he said.

The Aam Aadmi Party, along with other organisations, decided to protest the bill's implementation soon.
