Dr Sidhu visits Verka drain ahead of its clean-up

Chief Parliamentary Secretary (CPS) and Amritsar East BJP MLA Dr Navjot Kaur Sidhu on Sunday chose to send a clearcut message to her detractors in the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) that she knew how to look after her constituency and was aware of its problems and priority areas for development.

Notwithstanding the accusations levelled against her that she did not care for Akali-dominated areas, Dr Sidhu visited Verka and Vallah village along with Punjab chief engineer (drainage) Vinod Chaudhary and mayor Bakshi Ram Arora to take stock of the problems of this area.

The objective of this visit was to get the drain passing through Verka and Vallah cleaned at the earliest. It was also decided during the visit to cover the open drain in the interest of the general public. All the expenditure on the project would to be borne by the drainage department.

Chief minister Parkash Singh Badal had recently instructed the chief engineer to visit the site and prepare estimates and complete the work on priority basis. Dr Sidhu had met Badal and apprised him of the need to clean the drain before the monsoon and also to cover it.
