The accused, identified as Balwinder Singh, entered the gurdwara in an inebriated condition and created a nuisance. He was nabbed and handed over to the police.

As per the devotees, Balwinder entered the gurdwara wearing shoes at around 5 am and hurled abuses at the granthi. He then tried to reach the holy book but was overpowered by the devotees and the granthi.

Bholath DSP Lakhbir Singh said, “Accused could not tear the pages as devotees caught him before he could reach the Holy Book.”

He said that they have arrested the accused and an FIR will be registered against the accused after investigation.

Meanwhile, as the news spread, people from nearby villages gathered outside the Bholath Police Station and staged a protest demanding strict punishment for the accused.

Later, they lifted their protest after assurance by the police.
