The election commission has given five days extension to the candidates for filing their election expenses.
Addressing a meeting of the contestants, who contested assembly polls in the nine constituencies falling in Jalandhar district, and their polling agents here today, the deputy commissioner-cum-district electoral officer Priynk Bharati said that it was mandatory for all the contestants to file their poll expenses within a period of one month after the results were declared.
The results for the Punjab assembly polls were declared on March 6 and all the contestants were required to file their documents including original registers of expenses, bills, vouchers and statements of the banks with which they had been operating the election accounts specifying election expenses by today.
He said only 26 contestants of the total 79 who fought elections in the district spreading to nine constituencies had filed detailed lists of their election expenses. He said that the contestants who had not filed their election expenses are advised to file their expenses accounts in detail by the evening of April 9 so that these were compared to the shadow registers of election accounts of the contestants maintained in the office of the district electoral officer.
He said that the process of matching and comparing the election accounts of the candidates with that of the shadow election registers will be done in the presence of the observer-expenses who is reaching here on April 9.
