Kaur alleged that her husband and in-laws, including brother-in-laws Gurvinder Singh and Gurpreet Singh, father-in-law Paramjit Singh and mother-in-law Kamaljit Kaur used to harass her for dowry.

She alleged that on June 26, while she was cooking, her brother-in-law molested her. She set herself free and rushed towards another room where her other in-laws were present. She alleged that the accused then assaulted her and poured kerosene oil on her.

“The neighbours then huddled there and rescued me, and informed my parents, who rushed me to civil hospital,” she added.Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Pritpal Singh at Basti Jodhewal police station said the police had launched a manhunt to arrest the accused.
