Four of a family killed in mishap

Four persons of a Mohali-based family were kiiled and two gravely injured after two cars collided head-on opposite a petrol pump near a toll plaza in Behram town on Jalandhar-Chandigarh road, 25 km away from district headquarters.

Four persons of a Mohali-based family were kiiled and two gravely injured after two cars collided head-on opposite a petrol pump near a toll plaza in Behram town on Jalandhar-Chandigarh road, 25 km away from district headquarters.

The deceased have been identified as Rakesh Kumar (31), his wife Pooja (30), their son Vishal (11) and Veena (55), mother of Pooja.

The police said that family, in a Maruti Zen car (PB65-F-8931) were returning from Amritsar to Mohali, after attending a family function at Amritsar.

The driver of another car, a Qualis, Sukhwinder Singh reportedly tried to overtake another vehicle and collided with the Zen car, being driven by Rakesh.

Behram police station SHO Surjeet Kumar said that Pooja died on the spot, while Rakesh, Veena and Vishal succumbed to injuries on his way to charitable Guru Nanak Mission Hospital, Dhahan kaleran and Banga civil Hospital.

He added that two occupants of the Qualis Gurmeet Singh and Sukhwinder Singh were also injured and had been admitted to Guru Nanak Mission Hospital, Dhahan Kaleran.

He added that the police was taking the eye-witnesses' statements and investigation were on.

He added that prima facie, it appeared that the Qualis driver had made a mistake in overtaking, leading to the mishap.
