Interrogation of gangster Dilpreet Singh Dhahan, arrested by the police last week after an encounter in the Chandigarh, has revealed that he had procured two AK-47 assault rifles and planned to attack Ropar jail in Rupnagar to settle scores with an old adversary he has known from his school days.

A senior police official privy to the questioning said Dilpreet’s gang members were buying ammunition for the attack. It had yet to be ascertained if the gangster had the rifles his possession.

“Dilpreet has said he had old enmity with another gangster, Parminder Singh alias Pindri, lodged in Ropar Jail. He was keen to settle scores with him. Both belong to Dhahan village and Pindri has assaulted Dilpreet in the past,” said the official who is not authorised to speak to the media.

Pindri’s assaults seem to have been the reason why Dilpreet took to crime. “These assaults were among the provocations that led him to join various groups of gangsters. Pindri attacked him multiple times and they both have school time enmity,” added the officer.

Search on for assault rifles

Police officials are investigating the disclosures made by Dilpreet and a search has been launched to locate possible hideouts.

Gangster Jaipal Singh Bhullar is in the business of supplying arms and ammunition. He had reportedly given the weapons to Dhahan through Harvinder Singh alias Rinda, another gangster, police said.

Pindri has multiple criminal cases, including attempt to murder, registered against him and is active in the Ropar and Nurpur Bedi area. He also helped gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, now in Jodhpur jail, escape from the custody of the Ropar police on January 17, 2015.

High-quality heroin for personal use came from Pakistan

Police also suspect that the high-quality heroin recovered from Dilpreet is from Pakistan.

Another official not authorised to speak to the media said, “The heroin used by Dilpreet has been smuggled from Pakistan and sold in various parts of Punjab and Haryana at very high rates. Due to its potent form its effect is stronger. ”

Police are trying to find the sources from where this chitta (a heroin based narcotic concoction) was procured by the gangster and his aides.

A semi-original form of heroin made with a mixture of synthetic drugs was also procured from Delhi by the gangster and his aides as they were in touch with some Nigerian nationals in the national Capital, the police official said.
