A major tragedy was averted in the wee hours of Friday, when a goods train collided head-on with the engine at the Patiala-Sangrur railway link near Nabha.The driver of goods train engine and four other railway employees sustained injuries and were admitted to a hospital. The railways have launched an inquiry into how two trains were on the same tracks.

The driver of goods train engine and four other railway employees sustained injuries and were admitted to a hospital. The railways have launched an inquiry into how two trains were on the same tracks.

According to a railway official, had it been a passenger train, it could have been a disastrous accident. The sound of the collision was heard in nearby colonies and residents rushed to the accident spot for rescue work.

The injured were identified as Mitlesh, Brijbhan, Gokul Parsad, Anil Kumar and others who are still to be indentified. Traffic on that line was affected due to the accident and the lines were finally cleared later in the morning for operation.

Anil Kumar, a railway official confirmed that there was human error and said the person at fault would be found out during inquiry.
