The state government has decided to open a multi-skill development centre in the city with an aim to impart industrial training to the youth.
KJS Cheema, principal secretary to the Chief Minister, conducted a meeting with prominent industrialists at the Chamber of Industrial and Commercial Undertaking, Focal Point, Ludhiana.
Almost 5,000 youths will undergo industrial training at the centre every year. Cheema said the state government was working hard towards the development of the indistrial sector in the state.
Meanwhile, a delegation from the Federation of Industrial and Commercial Organisations (FICO) met the principal secretary to discuss problems faced by the industry.
They demanded the establishment of a new skill development centre at Ludhiana as unemployment in the state, especially in rural areas, was very high whereas there was a scarcity of skilled labour for the industrial sector.
The members also raised issues regarding long power cuts and demanded that the government should rethink and impose staggered power cuts like it did in previous years.
