Sufi Singer Hans Raj Hans on Thursday quit as the 'Gaddi Nasheen' (head) of the Dera Lal Badshah, based in Nakodar.
Hans, who was made the head of the dera six years ago, said that he served the Dera will all devotion and will remain associated with it even now. "This is my personal decision, I will continue to work for the Dera but will relinquish all the administrative charges", he said
The singer also announced that he will now head a Sufi centre coming up in Gahira village on Jalandhar-Nakodar road at the famous Panj Peer Darbar.
Though Hans gave the impression that he had decided to leave the 'Gaddi' (seat) because of his future association with the Sufi centre, sources said he quit in the wake of the strong opposition to his continuance as 'Gaddi Nasheen' among certain factions of the Dera.
Asked if he was renouncing the Dera headship to have an active involvement in politics again or to accept the chairmanship of some board or corporation in the state, he said that going by his stature, it would not behove him to accept such a position.
