Claiming that Punjab has been contributing 90% of its income to the national exchequer but is getting less than 1% of the total allocation of the Centre reserved for states, Bathinda MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal blamed the UPA for an "indifferent" treatment to the state.
Harsimrat blamed the Centre for ignoring Punjab in the distribution of funds for development works, saying, "Punjab has been neglected by the Centre by not allocating any fund in the budget. The Congress has always adopted an apathetic attitude towards the state and has ruined the industry and agriculture of the state by enacting anti-Punjab policies."
"The anti-Punjab policies of the Centre had broken all records of unemployment and inflation and the people of Punjab are reeling under an unprecedented price hike and unemployment. The Congress is interested only in meddling with the social and religious affairs of Punjabis," said Harsimrat.
Criticising the Congress propaganda about the funds given to Punjab under the central schemes, she said, "These funds are the prerogative of Punjab as they have been given from the revenue collected by the Centre from the state. "The UPA government is diverting the funds collected from Punjab to other states, which is undemocratic and against the federal structure of the country," she added.
Harsimrat was here to lay the foundation stones of development works worth Rs 4 crore. She laid the foundation stones of two bridges each over Kotla branch canal at Kotli Kalan and Bhainibagha villages, the foundation stone for the road leading from Raman Cinema to Mansa Khurd, another for the road leading from Mansa to Thootianwali besides the foundation stone of the new tehsil complex at Joga.
Harsimrat also laid the foundation stone for the Maur to Kotli Kalan road in Maur constituency of Bathinda district.
Harsimrat ensured the gathering that Mansa would not witness any scarcity of funds from the Punjab government and the work would commence before April 10 on all projects for which the foundation stones were laid on Thursday.
Later, she heard the grievances of the public and redressed their problems on the spot. She also urged the public to come to her office at Mansa if they had a grievance.
