Meanwhile, on Wednesday, the city witnessed rainfall in patches as it was observed that some sectors remained dry while the others received showers. This was evident even by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD)’s readings. Their observatory in Sector 39 recorded 17.8mm rainfall, of which 12.2mm was during the day. However, the observatory at the airport recorded 23.4mm rainfall with 21mm recorded during the day.
According to officials at IMD, this pattern of rainfall is typical of the monsoons.
“Meteorologically speaking, Chandigarh is a very small point. The clouds stay here like a sheet. Some parts of the cloud have a higher concentration of water thus some sectors get more rainfall than others,” they said.
Officials also added that the monsoon activity is getting stronger again and is expected to peak around Friday or Saturday. “Heavy rainfall over isolated areas during this period is possible,” they said. After that light to moderate rainfall is expected to continue through the next week.
Because of a relatively sunny morning, maximum temperature was recorded at 34.0°C, 1.8 degrees higher than the maximum temperature recorded on Tuesday. The minimum temperature has stayed consistent at 26°C for over a week now, shifting slightly to 26.7°C on Wednesday as compared to 26.2 degrees on Tuesday. Humidity stayed between 93% and 69%.
