A large portion of the seven-acre land in question has been under illegal occupation of villagers, who refuse to budge despite several reminders by the khap representatives.

Talking to HT, Hooda khap president Krishan Hooda said: "The land belongs to Hooda khap as the Basantpur village panchayat had donated them for carrying out khap activities. It has also got the prestigious Hooda khap 'chabutara' (raised platform), where meeting regarding social issues are held."

He said that the encroachers, who hail from same village, have illegally constructed dung houses on the land and refuse to bow down on being requested to relinquish their possession.

Hooda added that they hope the district administration takes appropriate action to release the land from illegal occupation.
