Housewife set ablaze for dowry

A housewife was set on fire allegedly by her husband and in-laws family for dowry at nearby Sehna village.She had been harassed for dowry since marriage and on Sunday, her husband poured petrol and set her ablaze after an argument.

Hearing her screams, the neighbours rescued her and took her to Barnala civil hospital. She was then shifted to Dayanand Medical College & Hospital, Ludhiana, in a critical condition and is battling for life.

SHO Kamaljit Singh said: " A police case has been registered against Veerinder Singh, his mother Kulwinder Kaur and maternal grandfather Dhanna Singh for attempt to murder Amandeep Kaur and cases have also been registered under anti-dowry laws."The accused are yet to be arrested.
