Four unidentified persons were caught on camera throwing a bag containing mobile phone charger and tobacco products along with other items inside the central jail in Hoshiarpur in the wee hours of Tuesday. The articles were seized and a case was registered against the accused.
Jail superintendent Vikramjit Singh Panthey said that around 3am, Punjab Home Guard jawan Ranjit Singh, posted at tower number 2, noticed two polythene bags being thrown inside the jail premises. He immediately alerted the head warder Amarjit Singh, who brought the matter in the notice of jail authorities.
In the CCTV footage, four scooter-borne youth were seen throwing the bags from the boundary wall. The bags contained several packets of tobacco, ‘biris’, a mobile phone charger, a battery and a set of headphone.
Panthey revealed that on a thorough search of the barracks, a mobile phone and charger were also recovered from two inmates. “A complaint was lodged with the city police station which registered three separate cases in this regard,” he added. He said that the vigilant Home Guard jawan and head warder have been given appreciation letters by the additional director general of police (prisons).
