Kalia welcomes direct payment of relief to cancer patients

Local MLA and BJP state spokesperson Manoranjan Kalia has welcomed the chief minister's statement on on direct payment of financial relief to the cancer patients from Mukh Mantri Punjab Cancer Rahat Kosh Scheme. Patients would now be saved from harassmnent, he claimed.

"I had raised the issue in the assembly session and even strongly demanded direct payment to patients as there were numerous complaints of the harassment of cancer patients by the empanelled private hospitals," Kalia stated here.

Apart from embezzlement, private hospitals were also overcharging for life-saving drugs, which are provided on subsidised price to the cancer patients.

"If the relief amount is directly paid to patients, there are little chances of its misuse," Kalia added.
