Two days after the case of an alcoholic and a drug addict father, who had allegedly abducted his two children with an intention of selling them off, came to light, the police swung into action.
The police approached migrant labourer Manoj Kumar Singh's wife Renu and recorded her statement on Saturday.
However, the police have not registered any case in this regard, as the police wanted to verify the matter first.
Inspector Sumit Sood, SHO at the division number 7 police station, said the woman had accused her husband of kidnapping their children. The police recorded her statement and verifying it.
He added that it could be a matrimonial dispute between husband and wife, but they could not ignore the statement of the woman too.
The SHO said, "The police have also been investigating the criminal records of accused Manoj, as his wife stated that he was earlier booked for kidnapping a four-month-old girl in 2007."
On Saturday, the police officials visited her tea stall on the Tajpur road and recorded her statement. Later, a woman police official remained with her for some time.
The accused made a call from a public phone to Renu and told her that he was in Amritsar and would not return the children to her.
Renu said, "When she called back at the number, the man on the other end told her that it is a number of a PCO in Delhi."
The woman said she went to the Tajpur road police post to inform them about the phone call, but the police officials present there did not pay heed to her pleas.
Inspector Sumit Sood said the police had launched a manhunt to nab the accused. The picture would be clear after questioning the accused.
Renu, who is physically challenged and runs a roadside tea stall, had also alleged that her husband had sold off her four-year-old son a year ago. She slammed the police for allegedly ignoring her complaints.
