The parents of a student have demanded an FIR against the school authorities a day after he was allegedly thrashed for not paying the school fee.
On Tuesday, Kulwant Singh, the boy’s father alleged that the school authorities had thrashed his son for not paying the school fee since last year. He was hit on the back and face. “When I went to pick him [my son] up from school yesterday, he started crying on his way back home and said the school authorities thrashed him. My son is so upset that he refused to go to school today.”
A member of a city-based non-government organisation, Manwinder Singh Giaspura, said, “Police must take action against the school authorities in the wake of a medico-legal report issued by the civil hospital pertaining to the boy’s injuries. But today when I visited, police were reluctant to do so.”
Daba police station assistant sub-inspector Amrik Singh said, “We have not filed an FIR because inquiry into the matter is still on. We called the parents and the school director in the evening today.”
School director Surinder Garg refuted the allegations and said there was no issue regarding the school fee because the child’s parents were labourers and they informed the school that they were facing a cash crunch due to demonetisation and will deposit the fee at the earliest.
