Ludhiana soaks in Republic Day celebrations

Republic Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and fervour at the Guru Nanak Stadium here on Tuesday. Punjab Vidhan Sabha speaker Charanjit Singh Atwal, who was chief guest on the occasion, unfurled the national flag during the district-level function.

The students from the various schools presented colourful acts, while tableaus of different departments displayed their achievements.

On the occasion, of the Republic day, Charanjit Singh Atwal was given the guard of honour from an impressive parade at the stadium. The chief guest honoured the families of the freedom fighters along with number of achievers from different fields.

Meanwhile, Atwal also honoured MC additional commissioner Rishipal Singh, horticulture wing supervisor Kirpal Singh, sanitary inspector Jagjeet Singh, a class 4 employee at DC office Kewal Krishan, numberdar Dharminder Singh and city residents Dalbara Singh and Pawan Kumar for their good work.

Atwal also awarded Asian International Stamp Exhibition Hong Kong-2015 bronze medal winner Muskan Malhotra and students of BCM Schools, Bhavna and Guntas, for their performance at a national-level competition organised by the ministry of petroleum and natural gas.

Also felicitated during the function were assistant sub inspector Anil Kumar, department of rural development and panchayat Mukhya Sevika Paramjit Kaur and a local resident Janvi Behal. Harshveer Singh Sekhon, Tejvir Singh Grewal and Prasha Seth were honoured for their outstanding performances at national and international skating competitions, while Rajveer Singh was honoured for his performance in both sports and studies.

Deputy commissioner Rajat Agarwal, police commissioner Paramraj Singh Umranagal and MC commissioner GK Singh Dhaliwal were also present during the function.

District schools to remain closed tomorrow

Meanwhile, Atwal also announced a holiday in all schools of the district on Wednesday.
