Man held for 'raping' college student

The Haibowal police arrested a man for allegedly raping a college student on the pretext of marriage on Thursday. The accused is said to have refused to marry her.

The Haibowal police arrested a man for allegedly raping a college student on the pretext of marriage on Thursday. The accused is said to have refused to marry her.

The police registered a case following an investigation. The accused has been identified as Kamaljeet Singh of Partapura village. He is said to be a close relative of the village sarpanch.

The complainant stated to the police that the accused resides in the same village and promised to marry her. According to her, he called her to his house in January 2014 and allegedly raped her.

The victim alleged that the accused had been promising to marry her for the last one year but eventually refused to do so.
After that, the girl filed a complaint with police commissioner. An inquiry was marked to assistant commissioner of police (traffic) Richa Agnihotri. After investigation, the case was registered under Section 376 (rape) of the IPC.

Haibowal station house officer (SHO), sub-inspector (SI) Varinder Kumar said the police have arrested the accused.
