Man stabs house maid in full public view, injures shopkeeper

A 22-year-old man allegedly stabbed a house maid to death in full public view in Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar on Tuesday morning.

A 22-year-old man allegedly stabbed a house maid to death in full public view in Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar on Tuesday morning.

The accused, Pawan, also injured the woman's employer with the same knife, before fleeing. The knife fell down on the road in his attempt to flee the spot.

The victim was rushed to Raghunath Hospital, Aggar Nagar, where doctors declared her brought dead, while her employer was referred to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).

Sources said the accused surrendered before the police after sometime of committing the crime. However, police officials have not confirmed his surrender.

The deceased has been identified as Krishna (35) of Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar. Hailing from Uttar Pradesh, she was a maid in the house of Dr Pawan Aggarwal and used to live in the servant quarter at his house with her 17-year-old daughter Aarti.

She also used to work as a cook in the house of Kawaljit Singh, owner of Paras Sweet Shop, located near her house. Krishna is the sister-in-law of Pawan's sister.

According to police, Krishna left home around 8 pm for Kawaljit's house. As she reached in front of Paras Sweet Shop, Pawan approached her and allegedly stabbed her repeatedly in the stomach and chest with a kitchen knife.

Kawaljit, who was standing close by, intervened to save the woman, but Pawan allegedly opened attack on him too with the same knife. Meanwhile, as passers-by huddled on the spot, the accused fled the scene after dropping the knife on the road.

Assistant commissioner of police (west) Gurpreet Kaur Purewal and Sarabha Nagar station house officer (SHO) inspector Harpal Singh reached the spot and initiated investigation. The police are suspecting illicit relations behind the murder. The victim had left her husband and was living with her daughter. The accused used to visit her home frequently.

Victim's daughter Aarti told the police that the accused used to ask her mother not to work for Kawaljit. She also told the police that Pawan had tried to consume poison at their house around two days ago.

Inspector Harpal Singh said the police had registered a case of murder and attempt to murder against the accused and initiated investigation.
