Punjab State Mandi Board has reduced numbers of Auction Platforms in new grain market Nakodar due to the weak financial position of the local market committee, said the chairman.
In his affidavit filed in the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Tuesday Ajmer Singh Lakhowal said that due to the formation of a new market committee Mehatpur in the year 2012-2013, operational areas of the Nakodar market committee decreased considerably and income of funds of market committee also decreased to 40 %. He submitted that thereby the financial position of the committee did not sound enough to complete the balance works.
Lakhowal said that planning of development works was rescheduled as per recommendation of the expert committee. He said that as per approved revised planning four numbers auction platforms for new grain market already completed were sufficient. It had planned five auction platforms. He said that it was also decided now to construct only one auction platform for Sabji Mandi instead of earlier planning of two auction platforms.
The chairman said the construction of maize dryer in new grain market Nakodar has been undertaken and RS 8 crore is likely to be incurred on this project, for which subsidy is being provided by the Government of India.
He said that Rs 5.70 crores have been spent for civil works. Public health works and electrical works in the market committee and others amounting to Rs 3.38 are in progress which are likely to be completed by November 2014.
