Missing minor girl rescued; man held on rape charges

The local police claimed to have rescued a 15-year-old girl from Ludhiana, who had been missing for six days. The police have also arrested a person, identified as Pritpal Singh of Manaal village near here, on the charges of rape after the medical examination of the girl confirmed sexual intercourse with her.

Senior superintendent of police Harcharan Singh Bhullar said acting on a tip-off, a police team was sent to Ludhiana and rescued the girl from a rented accommodation, where she was staying with the accused.

Kulwant Kaur, mother of the girl, had lodged a complaint with the that on November 4 her daughter went missing from the Malerkotla bus stand from where she was supposed to board a bus to Tibba village. Following the complaint, the SSP constituted special investigation teams under the supervision of deputy superintendents of police at Amargarh and Malerkotla.

The police said the accused had confessed that he had taken the girl first to Kular village and then to Ludhiana.

"We have started investigations and will seek remand of the accused," SSP Bhullar said.
