The LIG residents led by municipal councillor Hardeep Singh Sarao of Phase 10 also held a press conference against the woman. The woman had lodged a case on February 11, against Phase-11 SHO Sukhdev Singh, accusing him of raping her in his car.

District police officials said that the woman filed a rape complaint against Sukhdev Singh after he registered a case against her under Sections 452 (house trespass), 294 (obscene acts and songs) and 391(dacoity) of the Indian Penal Code on the complaint of Sarbjit Kaur.

‘I stand by my complaints’

The woman, however, said that she stands by her complaints. “I stand by the complaints I lodged. The district police and my neighbours have been harassing me since I moved here in 1998. Only when I was not able to carry the weight of their persistent harassment, I went ahead and lodged complaints. Now, they have come out in the open against me, I will also hold a press conference to explain my side of story.”

Subsequently, the woman had to go Patiala jail after the FIR was lodged against her. Police said while in Patiala jail, the woman had given a complaint against Sukhdev Singh, alleging that he had raped her.

The district police investigation has revealed that from July 5, 2016 to December 25, 2017, 29 complaints of wrongful restraint, rape, voluntarily causing hurt and molestation have been registered by the complainant to the senior superintendent of police, Mohali, and other police officials in the district.

Police officials revealed that she had lodged a complaint of assault on July 30, 2012 against Vidhyachal Singh Thakur, a resident of Phase 11, who got convicted in the case. On June 6, 2013 Vidhyachal Thakur was again accused of molestation and stalking by the complainant but this time he was acquitted.

Similarly, in 2014, Thakur was again booked for rape and unnatural offences. The FIR was cancelled after a neighbour of the complainant, Meena Sharma, gave testimony in the favour of the accused. Interestingly, following this, a complaint of rape was lodged against Meena’s minor son, on June 29, 2016 by the woman in Phase 11. The case is under investigation as the chemical report is awaited in the case.

Apart from it, another case of wrongful restraint and voluntarily causing hurt was lodged against Meena Sharma, her two daughters Rupam Sharma and Naina Sharma and minor son when they allegedly asked the woman as to why she lodged a complaint of rape against the son. All the cases have been lodged in Phase-11 police station by the woman.
