Murder attempt accused slits wrist in lockup

One of the accused, who were arrested for committing a slew of crimes, including stabbing a head constable, after carjacking an SUV, allegedly tried to commit suicide by slitting his wrist with a steel glass in the police lockup on Friday.

However, taking swift action, the police thwarted him from doing much damage, and rushed him to a local hospital.

The accused, Munna Kumar alias Guddu of Tibba Road, has been booked under section 309 (attempt to suicide) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Kumar and his two accomplices, Balwinder Singh alias Binder of Bhairo Munna and Amarjeet Kumar alias Munna of Bhattiyan village, are lodged in Sahnewal police station on police remand for allegedly stabbing head constable Rakesh Kumar of Sahnewal police station on April 12.

Police said, on Friday evening, Kumar asked constable Yadvinder Singh for water. When the constable gave him water in a steel glass, he tried to slit his wrist.

However, the constable snatched the glass from his hand and rushed him to a hospital.
