The administration will use the UID (Aadhaar card) as the document for verifying antecedents of applicants. The document has been up with the Arms License Monitoring System.

Additional deputy commissioner Amarjeet Pal said currently, people had to visit the offices concerned many times and to stand in long queues to apply for arms licences. This was a nuisance for the applicants as well as the officials concerned.

He added that the project was being implemented on a trail basis. After analysis of the results and with the approval of senior officials, the project would be implemented.
He added that after the introduction of the service, an applicant would have to visit his office only once and that too for identification.

He also added that said that 80-85% of Nawanshahr's population had been given UID cards. Soon, the district was likely to achieve 100% enrolment. The ADC claimed that the project aimed to computerise land records and Punjab was the first state to attempt such a project.

Nawanshahr and Kapurthala have been chosen as districts in the district in the state where such e-governance initiatives would be taken up to provide basic services at the doorstep of the people. Eighty such projects would be introduced at common services centres.
