Non-teaching staff of Multani Mal Modi college and Khalsa College alleging "step- motherly behavior of the Punjab government towards the non-teaching employees of private aided colleges" observed a stay on strike on their respective campuses here on Wednesday.

Local unit members of the non-teaching union, Punjab and Chandigarh, staged a dharna outside the colleges and raised anti-government slogans.

Union secretary Vinod Sharma, claimed that, government had released all arrears of government employees, where as no such declarations has been made for non-teaching employees of private aided colleges.

Meanwhile, president of the union Ajay Kumar Gupta, demanded that the government should lift the ban on making fresh appointments in order to fill the vacant posts.

Gupta claimed that the union would intensify their stir and hold strikes and dharnas.

The union is demanding the release of arrears following the revision of pay scales since 2006, implementation of grades from 2011 and mobile phone allowances.

He added that the next dharna would be held on February 8 if the government failed to fulfill their demands.
