SAS Nagar: Pledging to make SAS Nagar litter-free on the first anniversary of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, the local municipal corporation has launched a helpline number on which residents can complain about persons found littering.
As part of the campaign, the municipal corporation (MC) had identified 60 sites that have been converted into unauthorised garbage dumps by residents. At all these sites, the MC has put up boards promoting the helpline number 7087000911.
Residents can use this number to lodge a complaint against persons found littering the area. For the first offence, the violator will have to pay Rs 1,000, while habitual offenders will have to cough up Rs 5,000 as fine.
If violators fail to pay the penalty, the MC plans to disconnect the water connection to their houses. The civic body will also inform the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority and the deputy commissioner office about these defaulters and ask them not to issue no-objection certificates to their houses in order to stall the sale and purchase of these properties.
Contractors will also be deploying 30 employees at the unauthorised dumping sites to check littering. These persons will ask the residents not to throw garbage in the open and complain about the regular offenders to the MC.
