Tense for the past few days, the Nurmahal dera witnessed jubilation after the stay orders with followers raising slogans. “We welcome the order. At least, we have got enough time to plead our case now,” Swami Arvindananda told reporters.

Meanwhile, a senior administrative official said, “The past two weeks were very tense. There was pressure from the dera, state government, court and the media. But all is well that ends well. At least, the district administration and the state government now have enough time to deal with the situation.”

Sources said the district administration had been making deliberations on how to perform the last rites and had consulted even a few priests.

Sources said the police deployment at the dera had been curtailed after the order.
