BP Mishra, a clinical psychiatrist at the city’s Dayanand Medical College & Hospital, feels children must be provided a supportive environment. “Both parents and teachers must encourage children to explore their surroundings. Being polite to them and making them learn the value of good virtues will inculcate a positive attitude in them. If a child is underestimated at school or home, he or she may turn out to be dull or may become frustrated”, he said.
Another psychologist, Chitresh Singh Pannu, feels anger can also hinder a child’s overall development. “Parents must maintain a positive and peaceful environment at home and keep any personal disputes under wraps. Fighting in front of the children can have a negative impact on them”, he said.
