Patients to get free medicines at Rajindra hospital

Closed 30 years ago for paucity of funds, a medical store providing free medicines to patients of the Government Rajindra Medical College and Hospital was reopened at the outdoor patient department (OPD) of the hospital on Monday.

Closed 30 years ago for paucity of funds, a medical store providing free medicines to patients of the Government Rajindra Medical College and Hospital was reopened at the outdoor patient department (OPD) of the hospital on Monday.

College principal Dr KD Singh, medical superintendent Dr VK Sharda and deputy medical superintendent Dr Harshinder Kaur, who is also in charge of the medical services, inaugurated the store.

Besides in OPDs, the patients, for the first time, will get free medicines in emergency wards as well.

Dr Harshinder Kaur said around 38 kinds of medicines would be provided in the store.She said that to improve medical facilities in the emergency wards, a disaster control team had been constituted to deal with the heavy rush.

Ten new stretchers and wheel chairs were also added to the existing ones besides increasing staff in emergency wards to shift patients.
