At a review meeting of government development projects and other welfare schemes of the state government, deputy commissioner Varun Roojam said the district administration, especially the social welfare department, has been facing many technical and other communication problems to make timely payment to pensioners.

"To redress their grievances, the government is going to provide them with 'Rupay debit card' to all the pensioners, so that they can have the pension in their respective bank accounts directly and could withdraw through ATMs anywhere in the country," Roojam said.

"With these cards, we will be able to pay 100% pension to the beneficiaries in time and the payment mode would be electronic so that no middleman is involved," he said.
