The Punjab Police have failed to arrest Youth Akali Dal district president Capt Preetinder Singh who is on the run after being booked in a case of attempt to culpable homicide for attacking local Congress leader Tarvinder Singh Lucky on Wednesday.

"Police conducted raids at several places but all the accused are on the run", said Jaswinder Singh Tiwana, SHO Kotwali police station.

Lucky, a witness in Parampreet murder case wherein the YAD leader's father is an accused, was attacked in broad daylight at Anardana Chowk in the city when he was going on a motorcycle with Tejinder Singh Sodhi, uncle of Parampreet Kaur.

The Congressman had sustained serious injuries on his head and fractures in one of his legs and a hand. He was admitted to the Rajindra hospital.

However, family members of Lucky have alleged that the police is showing laxity deliberately to give time to the YAD leader to flee or approach the high court for seeking anticipatory bail.

They said that if the police fails to nab all the accused, they would hold a protest in the city. They alleged that Preetinder Singh himself led the attack on Lucky, who was accompanied by Sodhi.

Lucky has been helping the family in pursuing Parampreet murder case in which Akali leader and Preetinder's father Jaspal Singh Pardhan was among the main accused. Pardhan had lost the post of Mayor after registration of FIR against him in the case.

The family of deceased Parampreet has been demanding shifting of the murder case to CBI after the Punjab Police gave a clean chit to Pardhan.

Meanwhile the condition of Lucky is critical but stable, doctors attending on him said.

Parampreet's uncle Sodhi, who had escaped unscathed in the attack, had said: "Preetinder, along with some of his associates, tried to attack me but I managed to flee. However, he captured Lucky and mercilessly beat him up with a baseball and iron rods."

Parampreet's father Amarjit Singh Sodhi was booked in a rape case after he registered FIR against Jaspal Pardhan. The complainant in the rape case has already turned hostile in the court alleging that Pardhan, along with police, has fabricated the case against Amarjit Sodhi to pressurize them to withdraw the murder case'.

Soon after the attack, minister of state for external affairs Preneet Kaur visited the Rajindra medical college and hospital on Wednesday to enquire about Lucky. She said that the YAD activists were indulging in "goondagardi" in the city and police had failed to rein them in.

Immediately after the attack, Preetinder Singh had strongly denied any involvement in the case and said that he was not even aware of any attack on Lukcy or Sodhi family.

"It's another attempt of Sodhi family to tarnish the image of our family. Earlier, they dragged the name of my father into Parampreet Murder case, in which police has given clean chit to my father who lost the post of mayor," he had alleged.
