The two teams of PPCB under supervision of environment engineers inspected the units to check whether these industrial units were following norms for treatment and disposal of effluent from the units.

PPCB chairman Ravinder Singh said effluent treatment plants (ETB) of two of the units were found non-operational, while eight units were found to be discharging untreated effluent, stagnating discharge and committing several other violations.

He said ETBs of only four units were found working in an appropriate manner. "We have collected samples from all 14 units which will be sent to the central laboratory of the board for analysis. Besides, notices will be issued to these units regarding anomalies found during checking," he said.

PPCB chairman Ravinder Singh said such drives would be conducted regularly till the industry starts following the set norms for pollution control in the treatment of effluents.
