Sidhu style vs CM’s calm: Fastway fireworks likely in Punjab cabinet meet

Punjab local bodies minister Navjot Singh Sidhu had demanded from the chief minister and his cabinet colleagues to pass an ordinance giving him powers to audit the accounts of Fastway cable company that dominates the market in Punjab. ‘Mysterious’ chopping of braids: Two cases emerge in Punjab now

After a dozen such claims in Haryana, Rajasthan and Delhi wherein women claimed their braids were chopped off mysteriously, two such cases have emerged in Punjab too. Sapna, 28, a resident of Chaunsar Basti in Bathinda, said on Thursday that she had gone to the washroom around 8.30 am where she fell unconscious “all of a sudden” and when she gained conscious one of her braids was chopped off. No end to boycott of Dalits who sought Rs 50 hike in farm wages in Punjab’s Sangrur

As the landless Dalit families of Dhandiwal village of the district have been facing boycott by upper caste farmers for the past 15 days for demanding higher wages, they have gone short of fodder for their cattle as the farmers are not allowing them to enter their fields. As per information, a calf of Hardiyal Singh died on Thursday due to hunger and there was no fodder in the feeder at Charanjit Kaur’s home for the livestock. Read more

Bill to implement GST in Chandigarh passed by Lok Sabha

A bill to replace an ordinance for the timely execution of the GST law in the union territory of Chandigarh was passed by the Lok Sabha on Thursday. The Punjab Municipal Corporation Law (Extension to Chandigarh) Amendment Bill, 2017 seeks to transfer power of the central government to levy taxes on entertainment and amusement in Chandigarh to its municipal corporation. Chandigarh’s beloved Sector 17 sitting on tinderbox

An audit conducted by the civic body in the wake of the July-3 blaze at Bank Square has found glaring violations of fire-safety norms in Sector 17. Three teams of the municipal corporation (MC)’s fire department conducted the survey at 100 showrooms.
