Punjab top state in rooftop solar power generation, says Majithia

Punjab revenue and non-conventional energy minister Bikram Singh Majithia on Tuesday said the border state is poised to make another history in “green power solar revolution”, after the “game-changing” green revolution.

Speaking on the occasion of Ranjit Singh Waryiam Nangal assuming the charge as the Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) chairman here, Majithia said in the past few years the state has registered a growth rate of more than 100 times in the field of solar power generation.

The minister said that in the past four years, solar power generation in the state has reached 1,050 megawatt (MW) from mere 9 MW, backed by investments to the tune of Rs 8,000 crores. It has also helped create a lot of direct and indirect employment opportunities, he said.

Majithia said Punjab is also leading the nation in rooftop solar power generation. He said the Centre has awarded the state a number of times for promoting cleaner, safer and greener energy.
