Punjab vigilance bureau arrest ASI, head constable for accepting bribe

After verifying the information, a vigilance team laid a trap and the ASI was arrested while accepting the bribe from the complainant.

The state vigilance bureau (VB) on Thursday nabbed an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) and head constable red-handed while accepting bribe in two different cases.

A VB spokesman said ASI Chain Singh, posted at police station Sidhwan Bet, Ludhiana rural, was caught on the complaint of Jaswinder Singh of Pratap Singh Wala village. Jaswinder had complained that the ASI was demanding Rs 10,000 for letting his three tractor-trailers carry sand. After verifying the information, a vigilance team laid a trap and the ASI was arrested while accepting the bribe from the complainant.

In another case, head constable Jeet Singh, posted at police station Lakho Ke Behram in Ferozepur district was nabbed on the complaint of Mukhtair Singh of Aavan village. Mukhtair had complained that the head constable was demanding Rs 3,000 to present challan of his case in the court. A trap was laid and the head constable was arrested.

Cases have been registered against the accused under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the VB police stations at Ludhiana and Ferozepur.
