Rain batters crops in Himachal
Rain, high velocity winds in Himachal Pradesh affected the crops in around 80,000 hectare of area. Major loss was recorded in wheat crop which is major rabi crop in Himachal and grown on 3.5 lakh hectare.

Besides, peas, potato, barley, pulses and other vegetables were also damaged by rain and high-velocity winds.
Hailstorm in some areas also battered the vegetable, especially peas crop, in the state. Department of agriculture has sent their farm scientist to the fields to assess the losses. High velocity winds has damaged the crop in lower region of the state of which around 20% could be revived if the weather remain dry for at least two weeks from now, said Agri department official, “Rain and hail have adversely impacted the crops across the state,” said an official of the agriculture department who did not want to be quoted in wake of the ongoing Vidhan Sabha session.
State produces 6.5 lakh MT of wheat, 23,000 MT of barley and 10,000 mt of pulses while the veggie production of the state is 14 million MT. the government is yet to assess the losses caused by recent rain and snow.
