Rains to continue this week in Chandigarh, bring down mercury to 31°C

With just traces of rainfall throughout the day after 7.2mm rainfall in the early morning, weather remained relatively dry on Sunday.

However, rain is expected to continue into the next week and bring down temperatures.

“Light to moderate rainfall is expected for most of the next week. It is too early to predict if heavy spells will be received,” said Surender Paul, director of the Indian meteorological department’s local centre.

Paul said monsoon activity, which has been weakened, is expected to spread in coming days.

“It was spread over isolated to some areas (up to 50%) in the region but is now expected to spread over many to most areas (50- 100%),” he said.

Meanwhile, maximum temperature rose from 34.7°C on Saturday to 35.5°C on Sunday. Minimum temperature remained fixed at 26.6°C and relative humidity oscillated between 57% and 86%.

According to IMD officials, a drop in temperature is expected over the week, starting Monday. Maximum temperature is expected to drop to 33°C on Monday and 31°C in the next three days. Minimum temperature might drop to 24°C.

The month has had seven rainy days so far with 122.5mm rainfall recorded in all. Maximum rainfall was recorded on the July 3, at 64.8mm.
