Rs 2.5 crore fine imposed in power theft cases in West Zone of PSPCL in 15 days

The Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) has detected as many as 1,328 connections involving theft of electricity, unauthorised and wrong metering in the west zone of the corporation.
A penalty of Rs 2.5 crore has been charged to the defaulters and recovery of this amount by PSPCL is underway, said a PSPCL spokesperson on Thursday.
“Chief engineer (West Zone, Bathinda) H S Khurmi has requested the public not to indulge in theft of energy as it is illegal,” added the spokesperson. In the Bathinda distribution circle, as many as 265 cases of theft of electricity have been detected and a fine of Rs 36.95 lakh has been imposed on the defaulters. Special police stations have been asked to register FIRs against the culprits in these cases.
Similarly, in Muktsar circle, 694 cases of theft were detected in the past 15 days and Rs 185.15 lakh was charged as penalty. In Ferozepur circle, a fine of Rs 25.12 lakh was charged in 188 detected cases; in Faridkot circle, 181 power theft cases were detected and a fine of Rs 22.85 lakh was imposed.
