Sources claim that Bathinda and Faridkot are the most probable seats from where the morcha could field candidates, as the Congress has hinted that any alliance would not be given a sitting MP's seat, including Sangrur. The Congress had lost in Bathinda, Faridkot and Ferozepur in the 2009 Lok Sabha polls.

However, the Congress and the sanjha morcha candidates had polled 1 lakh votes more than their opponents. Faridkot, a reserved constituency, is also likely to be more suited to be contested by the Left parties. "We will discuss the possibilities. Our aim is to defeat the incumbent alliance," said Communist Party of India national executive member Joginder Dayal, when queried on the issue.

The People's Party of Punjab also has reason to get its strongest candidate to contest from Bathinda. Here too, the Congress and the sanjha morcha candidate had collectively secured 1.19 lakh votes more than SAD (B) candidates in the 2012 assembly elections. "All sanjha morcha leaders including Manpreet Singh Badal will participate in the meeting. We will consider all possibilities. We have got no official offer from the Congress party," Baldev Singh Mann, leader SAD (Longowal). He added that the motive was to defeat the Badals.
