The girl was received by Narinder Kaur, wife of additional deputy commissioner Tejinder Pal Singh Sandhu and secretary of Red Cross Society Viney Sharma.

Giving details about the girl, Viney said, “She is a beautiful girl but physically challenged. She has one arm with two fingers on her hand. The girl is only seven days old and cannot be sent for treatment. She has been sent to adoption centre in Ludhiana.”

Viney added that out of the total 136 abandoned children at the shelter, 116 are girls.

This ‘Pangoora’ scheme was started by the district administration in 2008. It was initiated by former Amritsar DC KS Pannu.
