SGPC to provide free treatment to drug addicts

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) will start a campaign to identify drug addicts in the state.The SGPC would provide them free medical treatment at the de-addiction centres being run by the SGPC in the state.
While addressing a media conference, SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar said that we had already asked members of the Dharam Prachar Committee (DPC) to create awareness among the people about the bad effects of drugs.
The committee was also holding a survey to identify drug addicts in villages and towns of the state. He said identified youths would be admitted to the SGPC- run hospitals in the state where they would be provided treatment fee of cost.
Meanwhile, Makkar also approved the annual budget of the Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Educational Trust for the financial year 2014-2015 during a meeting held at Sri Guru Granth Sahib University.
The meeting approved the budget of Rs 30.56 crore for the Banda Bahadur Singh Engineering College (BBSBEC), ` 3.82 crore for the Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Polytechnic College and Rs 6.40 crore for the college trust.
SAD general secretary Balwinder Singh Bhundar, SGPC member Karnail Singh Panjoli, district SAD president Jagdeep Singh Cheema, BBSBEC principal Dr Lakhwinder Singh, and principal Mata Gujri College Dr Jaitinder Singh Sidhu were among those present at the meeting.
