Unhappy with the performance of building branch of municipal corporation (MC), the MC commissioner on Thursday issued show-cause notices to all building inspectors. The commissioner was dissatisfied by the report submitted by the building inspectors after checking the building bylaws of various buildings.
MC commissioner Pradeep Kumar Agarwal had ordered to conduct two surveys to check building bylaws in different areas of the city, recently. Of these, first survey was conducted by the nonbuilding branch officials, and the other survey was conducted by the staff of building branch. But, when they submitted the report, the MC commissioner was not happy with it because the report was not giving clear information.
It is pertinent to mention here that the commissioner had directed to conduct these surveys to cross check the reports of both departments. The commissioner had directed to check the violation of building bylaws, as he was continuously getting complaints regarding illegal construction inside the city.
Talking to HT, Agarwal said the building inspectors had submitted their reports after inspecting the buildings in different areas, but the information was not clear in their documents. Also the information about the challans of the buildings under construction was not clear, he added.
“I have issued show-cause notices to all building inspectors, and they will give me give explanation on this issue on Monday. They have also been asked to submit correct report,” Agarwal said. The non-building branch of MC had already submitted their reports after conducting a survey on Saturday.
According to the sources, many of the under construction or already constructed commercial building are violating the building bylaws, but some of the staff concerned have never taken action against them. The sources also claimed that the commissioner had warned the building staff many times to check the violations in time.
On the issue, city resident Satish Sachdeva said the government should make the process to get approval of maps for construction of building easy.
“When any official delays the approval of maps, people are forced to bribe them. The MC should display information about the general norms for construction of a building at the entrance of its every office for convenience of public,” he said.
