Facing harassment from a moneylender and his associates, a couple committed suicide along with their daughter and a son, here on Sunday.
The deceased have been identified as Anil Aggarwal, his wife Rajni Aggarwal and children Rashi and Abhishek. They were residents of Jalandhar.(Representative image)
The bodies of Anil Aggarwal, his wife Rajni Aggarwal and children Rashi and Abhishek were found at along the Jalandhar-Pathankot highway at Kishangarh, nearly 12 km from Jalandhar city. The deceased were residents of BD Flats near the Pathankot Chowk.
The bodies were discovered by Bhagwant Singh of Daulatpur village. Some bottles, suspected to containing poison, were found near the bodies.
A suicide note recovered from Anil Aggarwal’s pocket said he had taken a loan from a moneylender and was not able to repay it. “They were threatening to kidnap my wife and daughter. We did not have any other choice. They are bad people,” read the note.
On the basis of complaint filed by Anil’s sister Neelam Gupta of Shaheed Udham Singh Nagar, a case under section 306 (abetment to suicide) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered against eight persons, including Arwinder Pal, Sanjeev, Gurmukh, Atul, Kulvir, Mandeep Lada and Rajvir Kaur, said Bhogpur station house officer inspector Lakhvir Singh. The accused belong to various localities of the city, added the SHO, adding that the bodies were sent to the civil hospital for autopsy. Till the filing the report, two accused --- Rajvir and Atul --- were nabbed by police.
