Suspecting his wife of infidelity, a 29-year-old man from Ludhiana committed suicide by consuming poisonous substance, two days after he returned from Dubai. The police have booked the victim’s wife and mother-in-law on charges of abetment to suicide. The police had filed proceedings under Section 174 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC).

The deceased has been identified as Karan Asht, 29, resident of Shimlapuri. The case was registered after the statement of Joginder Singh Asht, brother of the deceased.
Joginder Singh told police that Karan married Vinny eight years ago. He went to Dubai two years back and worked there as a driver. He came back a few days back and went to his in-laws’ house to bring his wife and son back home.
Joginder said Karan came to know about his wife’s alleged relation with a man. On July 26, Karan along with his wife and son came to his home.
By then he had already consumed poison. When his health started deteriorating, he asked their brother Tej Partap to rush him to a hospital.
“We took Karan to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) where he died,”said Joginder Singh.
“On Friday I came to know that Karan suspected his wife Vinny of infidelity after which he committed suicide. I also came to know that Vinny’s mother Mandeep Kaur was also aware about her daughter’s illicit relation. So I lodged an FIR against them,” added Joginder Singh.
ASI Satvinder Singh from Daba police station, investigating officer, said a case against Vinny and her mother under Sections 306 (abetment to suicide) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered. He said they are on the lookout to arrest the accused.
