A suspended PWD (B&R) SDO first killed his wife, suspecting her of illicit relations with many persons, and then his servant, fearing that he may tell the police that he used to beat her (wife) up, revealed a special investigation team (SIT) formed to probe the double murder mystery in Lehragaga.

Talking to mediapersons here, on Wednesday, Sangrur SSP Mandeep Singh Sidhu said Surjeet Singh, who was suspended as SDO in 2011 and was released from the jail in May last year, first killed his wife Gurpreet, by strangulating her at his house, suspecting her of illicit relationship with people with whom she used to talk on the phone.

The SSP said, fearing that his servant Jasvinder, may play a crucial role in the investigation and tell the police that he used to beat up his wife, the suspended officer also killed his servant in a field in Moonak with a sharpedged weapon on March 13.

After killing them, Surjeet filed a complaint at the police station alleging that his servant, Jasvinder, had killed his wife. But the next day, the police also recovered the body of Jasvinder from Moonak.

The police arrested Surjeet from his residence on Wednesday on the charge of double murder. He will be produced in the court on Thursday.

Then SSP Sidhu had formed a SIT under the SP (D), Moonak, and the DSP, Lehra, and Moonak and Lehra SHOs had been made members of the SIT, which solved the mystery in five days.

He said that during the investigation, it was found that the SDO’s wife was in touch with several people, which led to domestic violence and scuffles between them.

However, Surjeet told the police that his servant Jasvinder was not in an illicit relationship with his wife, but he killed him, too, fearing that he might tell the police that he used to beat up his wife. Police said Gurpreet Kaur alias Guddi (38), was the second wife of the suspended SDO.
