SUV-borne armed men rob elderly couple at gunpoint in Ludhiana

The miscreants snatched the victim’s purse, containing some cash, debit card and important documents at gunpoint.

Despite high security for the state-level event on the occasion of Independence day, miscreants had a field day on Monday and executed three incidents in Ludhiana.

In the first incident, four armed men in an SUV robbed an elderly couple at gunpoint near Chatar Singh Park in the city on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.

In his complaint, Jasveer Singh, 70, of Model Town, stated that he was going to drop his wife near ISBT on his Activa scooter.

“When we reached near Chatar Singh Park, an SUV intercepted us and four men alighted from the vehicle and pointed gun at us. They snatched my purse, containing some cash, debit card and important documents,”he said.

“The accused also snatched my wife’s handbag containing Rs 10,000 in cash, gold jewellery and a mobile phone,”he mentioned in the FIR.

Investigating officer, assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Sudarshan Singh, said that a case under Sections 379B and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against the four unidentified accused.

Two women fall prey to miscreants

In another incident, two bike-borne miscreants snatched a woman’s handbag outside MBD Mall at Ludhiana Ferozepur road.

Complainant, Jaspreet Kaur, 36, of Jagraon, said that she along with her brother, Charanpreet Singh, had come to city for shopping. She told the police that when they stopped the car outside the mall to buy some snacks, two bike-borne men snatched her handbag and fled. In the attempt to stop them, she fell on the road and suffered minor injuries.

The police said that handbag contained ₹4,000 in cash, mobile phone and important documents. The victim further told the police that her brother tried to chase the accused but they managed to escape. The Sarabha Nagar police have registered a case against the two unidentified accused.

In another such on Monday, a 34-year-old woman of Rakh Bagh area was robbed of her handbag.

Maninder Bains in her complaint stated that she had gone to college road to buy some grocery items. She told the police that when she was walking towards her car from the shop, two bike-borne miscreants struck there and snatched her bag. The handbag contained Rs 10,000 cash, an i-phone 6, gold ring and other important documents. The division number 8 police have registered a case under relevant sections of IPC.
