Now enjoy Uber’s bike taxi in Chandigarh starting at Rs 20

The notification about the new service was flashed on apps of the users in the region on Saturday evening.

Uber — app-based cab service — is now offering two-wheeler ride, starting at a base fare of Rs 15, in Chandigarh and Mohali.

The notification about the new service was flashed on apps of the users in the region on Saturday evening.

Along with the base fare, Rs 3 per km and Rs 1 per minute will be charged. The minimum fare is pegged at Rs 20.

Chandigarh Uber general manager Nitish Bhushan said: “The service is a by-product of the idea ‘Apni gaddi apna rozgar’ of the Punjab government. The service has started in Chandigarh and Mohali for now.” He said it is a “soft launch” because they have fewer bikes at this point but the service will be expanded in coming days and Panchkula will also be included.

“The new service comes as a treat for residents who want a cheaper ride. It will also create employment,” said Bhushan.

UT state transport authority secretary Rajiv Tiwari said the administration was yet to finalise a policy for the baxi ride. It is learnt, the policy may be cleared next week.
