Upset over her husband’s “illicit” relation, a 25-year-old woman of Mullepur village allegedly committed suicide by jumping in Bhakra dam on Friday.

The victim’s husband, Amandeep Singh, a resident of Bharmaasi village, had illicit relationship with Pinder Kaur of the same village, said police, adding, both Amandeep and Pinder are at large after the incident.

“The victim, Gurpreet Kaur, got married to Amandeep three years back. After having learnt about her husband’s illicit relation with Pinder, Gurpreet got upset and decided to end her life,” said Kuljeet Singh, inspector at the Mullepur police station.

Police have booked both Amandeep and Pinder under sections 306 (abetment of suicide) and 34 (act, omission) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and started inquest proceedings.
